This is karmann's hint:
"Type 3 color.

a keen researcher will find that this particular color code is indicated incorrectly on the samba.
now that is a fun game. figure out which color is indicated incorrectly in the sambas type 3 listing and you have the color.

hint. the indicated code number is for a vanagon/transporter not a type 3."

Well Bob, we now know what you have time for...

Yes Nutria. Tho what I have seems slightly darker. We'll find out when it goes on. The code is L573 nutria brown 63-65 type 3. From around 1988 to 1990 vw also used L575 nutria beige, a different color altogether. L575 may have only been available in Europe.

Excellent colour choice. I thought I was a little hardcore on the ACVW... but colour code number off by 2? And it stands out to you?? Nice catch Heinz Nordhoff. You doing two tone as in the picture?

Seen this used on an early square a while ago and loved it immediately.

What are you doing for the interior? I’ve recently gotten fabric samples from SMS if you want to see what the OG Brown Cord vinyl (that went with the nutria) looked like in the flesh.

This is the square I was talking about above:

Can’t remember the thread that I saw it in though.

Have to be careful with the nutria, iv seen a few type 3s done and they look a bit purplish in certain light. But it is a nice color. Itll look awesome.
So I guess creamsicle orange is out.

Yha Dave. i have to agree. i have to be careful. I've seen it too with a purple hue.
top color will be likely grey/beige. the delux insert will be red.
the interior will be brown with dark red inserts.

while none of these are origional for a bus restoration. i think it will retain the factory flavour.

wheels and tires are up in the air right now. a set of radars would look good but i'd really like a set of widened beetle smoothies with redwall tires. problem with the beetle route is i'd have to narrow the rear a little. while in principal i dont have an issue with this and think it would be a fun project, problem is i cant go back to factory width wheels easily.

I have a set of widened beetle wheels, though they won't fit yours, I can give you the name of the guy who did it. It's a fairly simple thing to do if you want to tackle it yourself. you can kinda select your own offset when you do this also.So you could possibly fit them under without too much trouble I'm thinking.
All the guy did was he took a set of 15x10 chev rims and cut out the center, then took the center out of the vw wheel and welded it in where he needed it. If I had my time back I would have gotten him to bring them out an inch more to prevent the rubbing issue I have. I don't know what is involved in the bus, but it's worth a try. I think the factory wheels and the colors you picked will realy make it look like a custom/factory resto. Can't wait to see it done.

suspension back in. needs adjusting but on the ground anyway. i will need some adjustable spring plates on the back. i had the rear lower first but could not get the wheels on. spring plates will help this.

Spent a few hours at Jedi Master Lutz Lab and hung some freshly interior painted doors on the bus :D This bus will be, hands down, the hottest VW on the island when complete. I didn't snap any photos today but will be clicking pics like a bad cv joint come next Saturday when the paint is flying from the Jedi Masters VW Life Sa'ver :D

I'm not a fan of the aircooled stuff, but I am a fan of attention to detail. This is going to look amazing. I really can't wait to see it.
