Lutz has often been called the jedi master.... it seems the paint scheme fit with that description. It is obi wan kenobi's robe colour.....

absolutley deadly.

So. I really wasn't happy with the track on the rear. Its common when converting to IRS that the rear track increases. The increase of track brought the new tires too close to the fender lip. This as well as the screaming difference with the narrowed front compared to the back made me want to narrow the rear some. Narrowing the rear some would make it easier to get the wheels on and off as well.
I started by removing all the right side rear suspension. Moved the control arm mounts as far inward as I could enabling me to place the control arm inside the spring plate as opposed to outside. Result, right side is now narrower by 1". I still have to adjust the camber but the rear wheel is now closer in track to front.

This photo shows the narrowed side. Note track in comparision to front

This photo shows wide track side. Much wider than front

Actually. The issue will get bigger when I narrow the front an additional 2". But will then get wider again when the front discs go on.

Now that the rear is narrower, I have the opportunity to lower it more (there goes the easy wheel on and off) so I moved the spring plate one inner notch. Result, lower by one additional inch. This is as low as I can easily go without adjustable spring plates. Going lower would require using a jack between spring plate and frame to get wheel off or unbolting spring plate every time wheel has to come off.

Other than adjusting the camber, i still have to deal with the axels. They will now need to be narrower. They do float in the cv's but will still likely bottom out on the transmission or hub. I'm going to start by cutting 1/2 inch off the axle and cutting a new groove for the cir-clip.

Will it be ready for debut at The Dub Show? That would be amazing.

Was smokey down this way this afternoon.

Bus will not make dubshow this year. Still to much work to do.

I got a shopping list for when we go to the California shows in June.

Hey Jeoff
The bus looks beautiful.
What shows are you going to? I was looking on the samba but didn't see too much of interest except bug out in Sacramento and Pomona. I'm in Phoenix now and just finished a job bill be driving to riverside in the morning to start another job. Should be there a few weeks. The Sute is still not ready so I have some time to kill. I'm definitely going to Pomona but Sacramento I'm kit sure. I'm definitely hitting up frisco's diner again. Last time was packed and awesome.
Do you plan to finish up the bus this year or next?

Dave, we'll be going to the OCTO show on June 13 and the VW Classic on the 14th.
We'll miss Ponoma, was there last year, great event but you got to get there eairly.
We did OCTO and El Prado last year. Both pretty good but I really need to check out the classic. We are flying to San Deigo on the 9th and driving to Irvine on Thursday after the weekend its back to San Deigo for a few days.

Bus will not see the road this year. Doing the brakes now. Got stuff to rebuild the gearbox. Will build engine this winter, some interior work to do but hopefully next summer.

Cool beans.
Hope I bump into you. I'll be going to as much as I can. Bought a bucket of 50 weight sunblock yesterday and a hat so I'm all set.
I'm in riverside so it's just 50 mins to 3 hours away depending on traffic.
Anyone else wants to go, I got room in my hotel, always lots of gas in the car so your welcome anytime.
