Jeff asked me to post an update here. This past Saturday, June 1 the paint began flying after a long time in the works. The final paint color chosen was a OE VW White-Grey for the top and a Type 3 VW color for the bottom in Nutria Brown. The color combination is awesome. The Nutria Brown looks like chocolate milk at certain angles/lighting and grey under others. The white-grey on top looks pure white at times and cream at others.

Here's a few pictures I took of the process on Saturday. The bottom was painted with 3 coats of Nutria Brown. Two hours after the final coat was sprayed the bottom was taped and masked off and given three coats of white-grey on top. Once that dried we unmasked the bottom of the bus and spray three nice coats of clear. The pictures I took aren't great because of my half dead blackberry. We built a plastic current to section off one side of the garage from the painting side - a ghetto paint booth which worked great. So if you are wondering why all my pictures are of the same side of the bus on the same angel that's why lol.

Hopefully Jeff will post some updated pics soon with the bus unmasked and at better angles with the paint booth disassembled. He will shed some insight on the next steps for the bus as well.

Just so you all know, the underside of this bus has a paint and clear coat finish that is as perfect as the topside. Nothing but quality from the Yoda Master Lutz.

Thanks Scott for putting up the photos and the hand on Paint day. That was a long one.

I'll post up some pictures when I get a chance. Real busy, between work, the houses and the mustang haven't had much time for the bus. The colors look good but alot of orange peal. First time doing a overall with a new HVLP gun and figure I didnt have enough pressure. Thankfully there is a lot of clear on there and i have started sanding the finish smooth and even buffed and polished a bit and it will look real good when done.

Dave, you know where I am. Bob, I dont know if you've been to the new place or not. Let me know.

Nothing as interesting as a '65. Its a 05 GT that is starting to spend more time at the drag strip than the street. When not at the track, its on jack stands getting ready for the next track trip.

Jeff. March issue of Volksworld features a 64 micro bus beige grey over nutria. mmmm very pretty. Some one been spying on you! Worth picking up if you want a preview of your end game!

If you can't find it at Chapters or where ever, you can have my copy. Mrs. Norman was awesome enough to get me a subscription for Christmas!

Its been a while since i've posted anything up so i though an update was in order. These pictures are from July/aug/sept 2014. Yes there is paint. actually twice. Myself and Scott spent a day painting it maybe a year and a half ago. After it was painted I sanded with 2000 and buffed. I managed to rub through in two spots so I repainted those spots. I was not happy with any of it and spent last Christmas in Flordia thinking on what to do, even thought about changing color. When I got back I painted the whole thing again. So here it is in september, painted, buffed, polished. Safaries in deluxe trim started.

Put new wheels on. 165/45/15 front, 195/50/15 rear. I have to narrow the front another 2 inches and will try and narrow the back about an inch. The whole bus will be lower again. no engine so that weight will drop the back slightly. I think I can get the back down about an 1-1/2 and still get the wheels on and off and will lower the front to match. I have a real nice Wilwood brake kit for the front, that widens the front track about 1/2 inch plus the Rader wheels widen the track so thats why the front needs to be more narrow. I'm pretty sure I'm gona have to raise the steering box, we'll see.

I've put a new headliner in, not happy with it so no pictures. They say not to do the headliner yourself. They are right.
