ALH Timing Belt Tools

Postby andrewspearns » May 25th, 2014, 5:28 pm

Anyone local have timing belt tools for an ALH TDi? Looking for the cam locking plate mostly.

No - I didn't find any locally, and I've not purchased any yet as I have delayed installing an 11 mm injection pump. I have about 50k before I have to do mine again.

They are on eBay for a decent price, and some folks on TDiClub.com are selling them as well.

I've not bothered to get any yet, have that pump to install but have been distracted with other projects. They don't look too hard to make?

You can use a flat file, door hinge for the cam and a socket for the fuel pump. I know on the 1.6 i believe a 1/4" drive 11mm socket works perfect. As long as it fits half tight.

Boys, I can turn the pin for ya, make one each. The flat lock you can hack and file yourself.

This is the start of the Camshaft sprocket puller. Seen it as a homemade tool on the net. Gotta check the fit, and then weld a plate to the top to pop a threaded hole in it.

That is fecking beautiful.
As for the ALH timing belt tools. I think I only used liquid paper. Call me prehistoric. but the car got us from Vancouver to L.A. and back again. Some times these fancy tools are just that.

Actually, the static timing was slightly out from whoever previously did the timing belt. without the Camlock plate, I would never have known. But they worked mint. A crank lock tool would have been nice, but you just need to keep checking top dead center.

Potentially stupid question, but for an ALH would I have to make the cam holding tool labelled A4 or A3/B4. I’m assuming A4 but I’d rather ask a stupid question than waste an hour or two on a fool’s errand making the wrong tool.

Also, are there any of those cam sprocket pullers for sale/borrow?
