Got my tires mounted:

Image

Did a test fit of the wheels on the car, hadnt actually mounted them before. Im hoping with the springs I can pull them off:

Image

Unfortunately the shop scratched up one wheel while mounting:

Image

So we had the tire removed to sand and re-shoot the wheel. While we were at it, had one of the other tires removed to fix another one that had a light spot in a corner:

Image

Sanded down the plastic center caps:

Image

Spray bombed them with gloss black to suit the wheels better:

Image

Image

Double sided tape for the metal caps:

Image

Back together:

Image

The gloss black looks much better on the wheel:

Trying to work out a deal for some cheap coilovers now to make sure the car sits right with those wheels.
Then I can pass on my springs to the gf for her MKVI Jetta.

Starting to feel like Spring in Ontario with + temps finally.
Took advantage and gave the Bunny a wash:

Image

Didn't look this way for long with the snow melting and causing wet roads:

Image

My paint is rough, every panel has dings, scuffs, scratches, chips, etc.
Some new ones from the winter. Got a nasty ding in the passenger side:

Image

And this was my own fault, scratched up the roof a bit:

Image

Also stopped by VW and got the process started to have the rust issues on the front fenders fixed under warranty. Should hear back in a few months, would be nice to have fresh fenders for the summer.

Thanks, excited to get to work. Just hope I can work out a deal for coils, as I've already handed the H&Rs over to the gf for her Jetta. Fingers crossed there.

But in the meantime, I updated my photoshop for the vision I have for the car.
-Added pic of actual wheels
-Adjusted color of bars
-Adjusted Joey mod lights
-Added smoked sidemarkers

Picking them up tomorrow. Used set of 8380 Tuning coilovers. Comes with a new set of rear springs and perches as the originals started to sag. Should allow me to get low enough to pull off the wheel/tire combo I have.

And a pic of them on a 4-door with similar wheel set up:

Got some work in last night. First, changed the plugs:

Image

Then got to work on my extra headlights. Into the oven:

Image

Prying. This was a pain. By the second one I got better at judging it. First one I did a lot of prying, stretching the plastic surround a lot. The second I heated more and after I pried up a section I was able to slowly pull the rest apart. Definitely have to keep it hot.

Image

The front off:

Image

Inner separated from the lens:

Image

Taped off the signal section:

Image

Painting:

Image

Done:

Image

Back together:

Image

Old and new:

Image

Pictures don't do it justice to the time involved to get them both done, but I am super happy with it. Will suit the car much better.

I did think about powder coating it bronze but decided to leave it. Wouldnt want it to stand out with red.

Yeah I am so happy with it. I always hated how the headlights looked on the car, two bright white spots on the dark front. Just needs a lip and the front will be good. Always felt the front end on the rabbit was too pointed, not as much to the front as the GTI / Jetta.

I did think about it. Bronze is powder so it would have to go on metal. Could find a similar color in paint but I dont want too much going on or for anything to stand out too much. I think the emblems look better blended in.

The front coils were pretty stuck, so need to take them apart to clean up the threads:

Image

Unfortunately, there is a set screw that locks the collar in place. But it also damages the threads on the strut body. Which makes it hard to move the collar.
Got one apart and cleaned up:

Image

And lowered all the way down, go big or go home:

Image

The other ones threads were more damaged though and the collar had to be cut off. Hoping 8380 labs can hook me up with another:

Image

And the rears waiting and spun down:

Image

IG pic of the new-look front end:
